Annae Jones Fine Art
Welcome, I am Annae Jones, a mixed media artist from Western Canada who paints with her feet. I work in a variety of mediums and genres that are often incorporate 3-D elements and unique textures and patterns. Like pages in a book, my work tells stories of how I experience or observe life. My colourful, layered and textured work are tactile and visually delightful; begging to be touched! They exhibit a sense of wonder, joy and discovery. My subjects range from representational subjects that highlight the beauty of the earth to whimsical works that involve a narrative to stylized and textured florals to layered abstracts.
I approach my work with an idea in mind, but mostly work intuitively as I respond to the subject, materials and mediums. The experimental process is joyful as I scrape back layers and piece other elements together like a puzzle to create varied passages of colour, mark making and textures. As a differently-abled artist, this process reflects my day to day life as I problem solve to complete tasks in unique ways. My stylized methods of outlining elements and using patterns or repeating shapes, gives me a sense of order and predictability which helps me feel safer in a world that is often not designed for persons with disabilities. The discovery process allows me to imagine, dream and truly let go of the physical challenges I face in my day to day life, while expressing myself through visual language.
